Biography
Praised for his “excellent technical skills and singing tone” (American Record Guide) and for his “exuberant and decisive interpretations” (Dagens Nyheter), Jacob Kellermann has established himself as one of Scandinavia´s most visible and versatile guitarists. With an extensive repertoire that features concertos, solo works och and chamber music as well as his own transcriptions, he constantly searches for new expressive possibilities for the guitar.
Regularly performing in all major venues of his native country Sweden, he also appears internationally in some of the world’s most prestigious stages - from Concertgebouw Amsterdam and Gasteig Munich to Tokyo Bunka Kaikan and Seoul Art Center. As a soloist, he has worked with orchestras such as London Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic Orchestra (UK), Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra (Sweden), Norwegian Radio Orchestra, Bielefelder Philharmoniker (DE), Orquesta de Valencia, Orquesta Sinfónica del Principado de Asturias (Spain), Tallin Chamber Orchestra (Estonia), Querétaro Philharmonic Orchestra (Mexiko) and Incheon Philharmonic Orchestra (South Korea). He has partaken in festivals such as Enescu Festival (Romania), Festival Dag in de Branding (the Netherlands) and the El Jem Festival (Tunisia). In 2020 Jacob performed at the official award ceremony of the Nobel Prize, an honor bestowed to a selected few Swedish musicians.
Jacob Kellermann records exclusively for BIS records and have released four albums: S. Gubaidulina “Repentance”–2014, Schubert Sonatas – 2018 and “Rodrigo, Harden & Coll – Guitar works 2020” and “Takemitsu, Spectral Canticle – 2023”. His third album, focusing on Spanish guitar concertos, was released in December 2020 to much critical acclaim and was awarded a Swedish Grammy for best classical album of the year as well as being chosen as #1 Record of the year by Swedens largest daily newspaper Dagens Nyheter. The Times (UK) called it a “distinctive release”, and the NRC Handelsblad (the Netherlands) described “transparent, tight orchestral sound and excellent interpretation of the guitar part”. It was also listed as Diapason d’or of June 2021.
Equally in demand as a chamber musician, he regularly performs with string players and singers all over Europe and have made critically acclaimed appearances and tours in Germany, France, The Netherlands, Czech Republic, China, Japan and South Korea.
Kellermann has a deep commitment to the music of our time and close collaborations with numerous composers including Sofia Gubaidulina, Toshio Hosokawa, Jose M. Sanchez-Verdu, Francisco Coll, Lisa Streich and Djuro Zivkovic has resulted in numerous works and concertos written directly for him. He has premiered new guitar concertos with major Scandinavian new music ensembles BIT20 Bergen and Norrbotten NEO. He is also the co-founder of the Netherlands based group New European Ensemble, performing the 20th and 21th century repertoire in conducted and un conducted chamber settings - from Schonberg, Boulez and Henze to world premieres by composers of the next generation.
Jacob Kellermann has studied in Sweden, Spain, the Netherlands and Germany. He received his "Meisterklasse Diplom" under prof. Franz Halasz at the Hochschule fur Musik in Munich in 2011. He plays an instrument by the legendary luthier Antonio de Torres, the "SE-114 ex F. Tarrega" from 1888 and on an instrument by the German luthier Matthias Dammann.

Der gefragte Kammermusiker tritt regelmäßig mit Streichern und Sängern in ganz Europa auf.Gemeinsam mit dem Violinisten Daniel Migdal bildet er das ”Duo KeMi”, das seit seinem Debüt im Jahr 2005 mehr als 120 Konzerte in ganz Schweden gegeben hat und bei Auftritten in Deutschland, Frankreich, Tschechien, den Niederlanden, inChina und Südkorea von der Kritik gefeiert wurde.
Mit einem umfangenreichen Repertoire, zu dem etliche eigene Transkriptionen gehören, sucht Jacob Kellermann ständig nach neuen Ausdrucksmöglichkeiten für die Gitarre. Aus der engen Zusammenarbeit mit Komponisten wie die Sofia Gubaidulina, Toshio Hosokawa, José Maria Sanchez-Verdu, Francisco Coll, Benjamin Staern und Djuro Zivkovic sind zahlreiche Werke hervorgegangen, die eigens für ihn komponiert wurden. Mit den bedeutenden skandinavischen Neue-Musik Ensembles BIT20 Bergen und Norrbotten NEO hat er neue Gitarrenkonzerte uraufgeführt. Jacob Kellermann ist außerdem Mitglied und Mitbegründer des inden Niederlanden ansässigen New European Ensemble.

Kellermann har släppt fyra kritikerrosade album på skivbolaget BIS Records. Albumet Rodrigo/Coll/Harden som släpptes 2021, där han bl.a. tolkar Rodrigos klassiska gitarrkonsert Concierto de Aranjuez tillsammans med London Philharmonic Orchestra och dirigenten Christian Karlsen, belönades med en Grammis, Diapason D’or och utsågs till årets klassiska album i Dagens Nyheter. Albumet fick även mycket positiv kritik i internationellt och hyllades bl.a. av the Guardian, the Times, Gramophone Magazine och Nederländska NRC.
Tillsammans med violinisten Daniel Migdal har han turnerat över hela Sverige som duo KeMi. Efter att 2009 deltagit i ”Ung och Lovande 2009” erhöll de, i 2010 i konkurrens med ensembler från 17 olika länder det mycket prestigefyllda första priset i ”Aschaffenburg Internationalen Wettbewerb für Kammermusik mit Gitarre“ som är den viktigaste internationella kammarmusiktävlingen för kammarmusik med gitarr. Duon har även turnerat över stora delar av Europa, Sydkorea och Kina.
Med en omfattande kammarmusik och solistrepertoar, ofta bestående av hans egna transkriptioner, söker han ständigt efter nya uttrycksmöjligheter för sitt instrument. Detta har även lett till ett brinnande intresse för samtida musik och nära samarbeten med ett antal tonsättare har resulterat i ett flera verk skrivna direkt för honom, däribland Toshio Hosokawa, José Maria Sanchez-Verdu, Francisco Coll, Djuro Zivkovic och Benjamin Staern. Hans samarbete med den ryske tonsättaren Sofia Gubaidulina resulterade 2014 i ett album med kammarmusikverk på BIS Records . Jacob Kellermann är även medlem och en av initiativtagarna till nederländska New European Ensemble.

World premiere of Toshio Hosokawas 12 Japanese Songs of solo guitar
In February 2023 Kellermann premiered Japans foremost composer Toshio Hosokawa first work for guitar in 15 years for a sold out Stockholm Concert Hall (Grunewaldsalen). A live video recording of the concert is now available at Konserthuset Play. The concert also includes music by Gubaidulina, Wennäkoski, Kuwabara and Leinonen. See the concert here...
Takefu International Music Festival - Japan
In september 2023 Kellermann will partake in Takefu International Music Festival giving the first Japanese performance of T. Hosokawas new work 12 Japanese songs. He will also perform works by Takemitsu and Schubert.
New Album release on BIS Records
Kellermanns fourth album in BIS Records is released on the 5th of May. The album is Kellermanns first collaboration with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Christian Karlsen and also features co-soloists Viviane Hagner and Juliana Koch. The album presents composer Toru Takemitsus complete works for guitar and orchestra for the first time in one album.
Vattnäs Chamber Music Festival
In July Kellermann will partake in Vattnäs Chamber Music Festival. Kellermann will be performing with some of Swedens most sought after chamber musicians as well as giving the world premiere of a new work for flute, viola and guitar by Spanish composer Francisco Coll.
Concierto de Aranjuez with Bielefelder Philharmoniker
On the 21 and 23rd of April 2023, Kellermann performs J. Rodrigos Concierto de Aranjuez together with Bielefelder Philharmoniker and conductor Alexander Kalajdzic in Rudolf-Oetker-Halle - Bielefeld.
